Welcome

Situated opposite the scenic Dubwath Silver Meadows nature reserve, Bassenthwaite Lake Station is a café in a restored railway station with a full size replica steam train. Guests should note this is NOT a real train but it is exceptionally realistic!

Meals are served from 9am until 3pm. Takeaway drinks can be served from 8am. 

​

Visitors are welcome to explore the lovely old station and grounds. Guests who have bookings on the train can explore all the carriages used in the film.

​

There is a small shop with local produce and plenty of souvenirs, plus icecream, wine, cider and beer and home-baked bread.

​

Enjoy breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea aboard the replica Orient Express train. Or pop in at the end of your day or pre-dinner for a delightful 'snifter' in the train or sunshine on the platform! Visitors should be aware that this is a dog-friendly site in all areas. Well-behaved dogs and owners are welcome and should observe our Doggie Etiquette at all times to avoid disturbance to other guests and keep everyone safe.

Our customers can enjoy a short level walk along the platform through the woodland and wild flower meadow or enjoy a peaceful few minutes in the bird hide overlooking the wildlife pond.

​

The consuming of own food and drink is not permitted however there is a public picnic bench in the Dubwath Silver Meadows nature reserve opposite our entrance.

Lovely, unique setting, fabulous food, helpful, friendly staff, shop, book swap , lovely walks and bird hide. Every time we visit it gets more beautiful and enjoyable.

Opening Times

Open 7 days a week until 5pm:

Takeaway drinks for early-birds from 8am

Breakfast: 9am - 10:30am

Lunch: 11am - 3pm

Afternoon Tea: 11am - 3pm

Christmas Eve - close at 3pm prompt

27th December, re-open at 11.00 for brunch bookings. No breakfasts served on 27th. 

Closed Christmas, Boxing and New Year's Day.

Booking is strongly advised. Tables on the train seat four and two. Larger groups will be seated on adjacent tables. It is not possible to guarantee any specific table though we will try and accomodate any special requests.

Open from 8am for drinks and 9am - 10.30am for eat-in breakfasts. Lunches and Afternoon Teas are served from 11am. Last service from kitchen and for afternoon teas is 3pm. 

From March 2026, we have our own Afternoon Tea double decker bus tour operating from the station. Tickets or gift vouchers can be purchased from the website. Bus tour seats must be booked in advance.
