Wild and Fruitful

What is your name and what is the name of your business?

My name is Jake Winter, and my business is Wild & Fruitful.

Where are you based?

We are based in Portinscale, Keswick just 7.6 miles from Bassenthwaite Lake Station!

What do you do?

At Wild & Fruitful we have a diverse product range of award-winning chutneys & relishes, sauces, preserves, peanut butters and honeys.

From our best-selling Keswick Ketchup to Fruity Lakeland Chutney and Strawberry & Rose Jam, we would like to think there is something for everyone to enjoy. All our products are hand-made in small batches, using ingredients sourced locally & seasonally, to ensure the finest taste.

We began supplying Bassenthwaite Lake Station back in 2021; having a wide range of our products available, the Lake Station is a great stockist of ours and only going from strength to strength.

What made you choose this business? Who or what influenced your decision?

Growing up my parents ran a guest house in Keswick, so I have always been around hospitality and quality food. It started as somewhat of a hobby, making jams & chutneys on a small scale for the guest house and for some local businesses. After working as a chef straight out of school for a few years I was looking for my next opportunity and along came Wild & Fruitful. After acquiring and re-branding in 2020, I was fortunate enough to turn my long-term hobby into my career.

What are your favourite parts of the job?

Being a chef by trade, my favourite part of the job will always be creating the products and developing new recipes. It is really exciting bringing to market a product which started as a fleeting thought and seeing it flourish & enjoyed by customers.

Recently I have thoroughly enjoyed the sales side of our business, growing the brand in Cumbria and beyond. It is always a real privilege to be visiting somewhere in the UK and see our products on shelf, all the way from our Cumbrian kitchen!

Are you launching anything new in 2025?

At the beginning of April we turned up the dial on our sauces, adding 3 new hot Sauces to the 8-strong range:

🌶️ Piri Piri Ketchup - sweet & spicy ketchup, hot chillis are balance with a delicious blend of herbs & spices, creating the perfect punchy sauce.

🌶️ Sriracha Ketchup - savoury, sweet and tangy! Chilli & garlic are packed into this sauce to create a distinctly moreish taste.

🌶️Habanero Hot Sauce- a sensation of hot habanero chillis, sweet mangoes and subtle spices combine to create a fiendishly hot kick.

Later in 2025 we will be bringing some of our most highly-requested products to the shelves- we’re keeping them up our sleeve for now, but all will be revealed in the coming months.

And, of course, on 2nd August, we will be supporting Bassenthwaite Lake Station at their 'Meet the Producers' festival based in their wonderful marquee overlooking the

wildflower meadow and pond.

This is a lovely and inspiring post about the beauty of wild, seasonal ingredients and how they can bring fresh flavors into everyday cooking. Using fruits and plants that grow naturally in the local environment not only adds unique taste to dishes but also encourages a deeper connection with nature and sustainable food practices. Posts like this remind readers that simple ingredients can create something truly special when used creatively. I also enjoy seeing how food and nature photography inspire visual creativity online, and sometimes I even find ideas for colorful profile images on sites like https://pfpuniverse.com that capture a similar vibrant and natural aesthetic.
