About the event

What to Expect?

  • A delightful way to take a walk and enjoy the beautiful countryside.

  • Expert guidance from a highly trained tutor

  • A special experience with like-minded people

  • Plenty of involvement and interactivity

  • Tasting of your wild harvest

  • Rules on harvesting and safety

Spend a few hours in the company of Jim, an expert professional forager, who will guide you through three hours of identifying, gathering and cooking your harvest!

In an engaging and inclusive style sharing information and anecdotes, he will guide you on the four Fs of foraging - Fungi, Fruit, Flowers and Foliage depending on the season, with opportunities to taste and test throughout the session.

You should come prepared for all weathers and a short walk (around 2 - 3 km) mainly along footpaths around the locality of the station. Bring waterproof footwear and warm clothing - it can be very cold standing around in the Lakes!

Sadly, this course is not generally suitable for under 14s. Older children are welcome to attend with an adult and tickets should be purchased in the usual way. Dogs are not allowed on this session and should not be left in cars, especially in warm weather.

Try and arrive at least 15 minutes beforehand and use the facilities at the station as you wish. We will need any dietary information before you arrive and please bring proof of ticket purchase, though electronic confirmation is fine - no need to print. When you arrive, let Reception know and you are welcome to wait on the platform until everyone is present. The course will start at 10am prompt.

There is plenty of free, on-street parking at Bassenthwaite Lake Station, or alternatively, consider using the X5 bus from Keswick or Cockermouth.

Guests are welcome to reserve breakfast tables before, or lunch tables after the course, and takeaway hot drinks will also be available to purchase beforehand too.
